OVERVIEW

Lavenders, Lavandula angustifolia., belong to the family Labiatae (Lamiacae) and have been used either dried or as an essential oil for centuries for a variety of therapeutic and cosmetic purposes. It is native to Mediterranean, the Arabian Peninsula, Russia and Africa. It is a stockier plant with a fuller flower, commonly known as English lavender (formerly known as L. vera or L. officinalis).

Lavender yields a highly effective essential oil with very sweet overtones, and can be used in balms, salves, perfumes, cosmetics, and topical applications. Lavender essential oil is well known for its sedative properties and for its ability to help calm stress and anxiety and to help promote sleep.

If used in excess, however, Lavender Oil can actually act as a stimulant. Lavender has been renowned as a ‘healing agent' in India and Tibet. Tibetan Buddhist medicine lavender is still used to treat insanity. Today, in Europe and the Americas, lavender is often used as a sleep aid.

HELPS IN SKIN LIGHTENING
Lavender oil can aid in skin lightening since it reduces inflammation. It can reduce discoloration, including dark spots. Lavender oil helps lessen blotchiness and redness. It relieves itching and reduces the symptoms of eczema. It also decongests the irritated areas on the skin by adding moisture, thereby accelerating the healing process.

ACT AS AN INSECT REPELLENT
Lavender oil does double duty for insect bites. It acts as an insect repellent, and it can relieve itching after a bite occurs. Many commercial mosquito repellents contain lavender oil. Insect bites cause redness, itching, and pain. They can sometimes become infected. Lavender oil helps relieve insect bites by warding off bacteria and reducing inflammation. It also naturally helps relieve pain.
